Tons o' Guns : Washington Wizard Javaris Crittenton Takes Plea, Charged With Gun Possession
The Washington Bullets Wizards lost again last night, they're not shooting very well. In other news...
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A second Wizards player has been charged with weapons violations in an apparent plea deal -- 10 days after Gilbert Arenas pleaded guilty.
Javaris Crittenton was charged Monday with two misdemeanors -- possession of an unregistered firearm and attempted carrying a pistol without a license.
The charges were filed in D.C. Superior Court in a document called an "information" -- generally a sign of a plea deal.
No court appearance has been scheduled.
Arenas pleaded guilty on Jan. 15 to a felony gun charge connected to a locker-room argument that is believed to have involved Crittenton.
Positive News: 7 Year Old Raises $160,000 For Haiti
He’s no Wyclef Jean or George Clooney, but that hasn’t stopped seven-year-old Charlie Simpson from raising more than £100,000 ($161,000) for the Haiti earthquake.
Simpson from Fulham, west London had hoped to raise just £500 for UNICEF’s earthquake appeal by cycling eight kilometers (five miles)around a local park.
“My name is Charlie Simpson. I want to do a sponsored bike ride for Haiti because there was a big earthquake and loads of people have lost their lives,” said Simpson on his JustGiving page, a fundraising site which launched his efforts.
“I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti,” he said.
And with that simple call, messages of support flooded the site.
“Such a big heart for a young boy, you’re a little star!” wrote one supporter. “Well done Charlie. A real celebrity,” said another.
Drake Covers Complex's Feb/March Issue, Says He is the New Jay-Z
Interview by Damien Scott, Complex's February/March Issue.
from Complex.com
The first time we ever spoke, you said that you were more in tune with R&B artists than the current new guys rapping.
Drake: When you're coming up, and you're in competition with somebody, it's always hard to have a friendship. I think Cudi and I are realizing that we don't threaten each other. It's ended up being one of the greatest industry friendships I have.
Around the time that Kanye directed "Best I Ever Had," it seemed like there was strife between your camp and Cudi's camp because Kanye was so enamored of you while Cudi's project was being worked on.
Drake: I wasn't aware of that. Even so, I could understand. If Wayne were to be enamored—which is a great word—of another young artist, I would be like, "Damn, I'm here too!" But at the same time, it happens in more than one situation. It happens with 'Ye, and I have a great relationship with Jay, and Jay's got Wale and J. Cole, who's one of my favorite dudes rapping right now. I've happened to have had more success. I made the most money, I have number-one records, those guys don't have that shit. And it's just facts, it's not even my feelings or that I feel I'm more talented. That's what the game is about, making great music that earns profit. When it comes to my relationship with the new dudes, I'm just excited for them. I get to sit back in a cool position and be like, "Yo, I'm excited to see you do it now because I know what it's like, it's gonna be so much fun for you…"
You feel like you're at the finish line?
Drake: I'm at the starting line. Those guys are at home, putting on their tracksuits, getting ready to make their attack. When J. Cole gets it super-right, I think he's gonna have a place as a Nas-type character who really stands for hip-hop, but still makes ill records that everybody fucks with.
If J. Cole is Nas, then who are you?
Drake: [Laughs.] I'm the young big homie! (Jay-Z)
Of all your contemporaries, it seems like you want to be famous the most.
Drake: That's gonna change. When Cole's sound is the new sound that everybody wants to hear, he's gonna be like, "I wanna be as big as possible with this shit." I didn't jeopardize anything to be in the position I'm in. You're listening to the shit that I believe in, not some shit I did because I needed to get here. People just happen to embrace my shit. That's very rare—but I also think the younger generation appreciates that brand of music, so I think it's possible for one of these guys to emerge and do exactly what I'm doing.
How's the atmosphere at Young Money now that Wayne is about to go to jail?
Drake: We don't really talk about it. It's surreal to me still. I guess on the day that it really happens, I'll start thinking about what I gotta do. I wanna have a talk with Wayne and ask him what he needs from me.
You and Wayne share an ability to cross over to diverse groups. What do you think it is that attracts polar-opposite groups to enjoy your music? Is it the Young Money affiliation alone?
Drake: I'm not talking about a thousand rounds in a chopper or payin' 24, 23. It's just delivery. One of my favorite rappers in the world, Jeezy, is somebody who loves my music. For him to not only co-sign what I'm doing but also to want to make music with me is crazy. Wayne had this conversation with me like, "You're in a position where you could be a star. Not just a rapper star. A true star." Me being biracial, me being from Canada but having success in the States, I have all these moments in my life where I'm jumping roof to roof. Black to white. Singing and rapping. My mom's friends listen to my music and don't feel weird about it. They feel weird listening to Wayne.
Does anybody in your extended team ever push you to be more...anything, I guess?
Drake: Never. Nobody's ever come to me and said, "Yo, you need to start rapping about this." Not Sylvia [Rhone, president of Motown/executive VP of Universal], Wayne, Doug Morris [CEO of Universal]. Nobody's ever said that to me in my life. I don't think anybody could ever do that. I talk about my real life. That's undeniable shit.
Are there other rappers you bounce ideas off of that may give you a line?
Drake: I've done it with three people. You don't want to have clowns in the studio being like, "You should do it like this!" That shit'll get annoying. But when you have a valid opinion around, it takes a lot of the pressure off.
Is one of those "valid opinions" from a rapper named Nickelus F.?
Drake: Not really. Me and F worked together at a younger stage in my life, but I can't really say that I all-the-way utilized Nickelus for anything on So Far Gone. F's one of the most gifted people I know at finding flows. I like to write for myself, though. He's helped me before, just not on a consistent basis. But yeah, F is dope.

Rapper Apache found dead in his home
Popular 1990s rapper Apache, who was a part of Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit, and who was famous for creating the song Gangsta B*tch passed away.
The exact cause of death was not disclosed, but we are told that it was a SUDDEN passing. Here is how MTV is reporting it:
"I got a call from Shakim [Compere] this morning, Queen Latifah's manager," Vin from Naughty by Nature said. "He was really feeling it. He told me, and I spread the word to Kay and Treach and the rest of our camp."
"I'm at a loss for words," Apache's best friend, Trick, said. "I still don't believe it. I'm numb."
Trick says Apache was found Friday in his home by his brother. Those close to him said he'd shown no signs of illness.
"They really don't know yet. It's so new - it just happened," Trick said about his friend's cause of death. "I'm waiting to hear back from his mother. We don't know if it was a heart attack or what could have happened. We don't know. We're waiting to hear how the coroner is gonna rule."
Trick had just spoken on the phone with Apache late Wednesday night.
"He was his old self," Trick, who noted that Apache had planned to be married in the near future, said. "We was laughing, joking, talking about Tupac. He said people wouldn't believe them stories from back in the day. They started out as roadies together — 'Pac with Digital Underground and him and Treach with Latifah. He's on 'Pac's first album, on Fat Joe's first album. He's gonna be missed."

C'mon Son!!! Stop The Violence NYPD Beating handcuffed Suspect
The video shows Cicero and Green bending down to punch the suspect, Jonathan Baez, as other officers mill about. A lawyer for Baez, Jeffrey Emdin, said the other officers should be punished as well. "If you look at their faces, there's not one look of outrage or disgust,'' Emdin said. "None of them intervened or reported this.... It reflects business as usual.'' Emdin alleged other men also were assaulted by police following a frantic foot chase with a drug suspect. Police say the drug suspect, not Baez, ran into a basement and unleashed a pit bull that charged the officers. A ricocheting bullet fired by an officer aiming at the dog grazed two detectives. The dog also was hit, but survived. Drug charges against Baez were dismissed, his lawyer said.

Ja Rule Gun Case: Rapper Faces Up To Four Years In Prison On Weapons Charge
NEW YORK — Rapper Ja Rule lost a bid Wednesday to keep a loaded gun found in his luxury car from being used against him in a weapons-possession case.
Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers rejected the platinum-selling artist's argument that the gun was found during an unjustified police stop of his Maybach sports car after a July 2007 concert.
His lawyer, Stacey Richman, said outside court she disagreed with the judge's decision and would pursue other avenues to fight the charges.
Prosecutors said the traffic stop was proper because the chauffeured car was speeding and had a suspended registration and no insurance. Richman said authorities were looking for reasons to pull over Ja Rule and other rappers after the show, a claim prosecutors denied.
After stopping the $250,000 to $400,000 car, police said they smelled marijuana and found a .40-caliber semiautomatic gun in the rear driver's side door.
Carruthers threw out the rapper's statement to police that he had "a little bit of weed" in his pocket. He isn't charged with drug possession. FOR MORE OF THE STORY LOG ON TO THE HUFFINGTON POST.COM

Watch: New $350K Lexus: So 'Cool' You Need To Be Approved To Buy It!
Lexus is proclaiming its new $350,000 LFA model, which can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and hit speeds as fast as 202 mph, a "two-seat supercar.
Lexus says applicants will be assessed based on their location, the other cars they own, and, above all, their driving habits. One Lexus manager indicated that the Toyota brand's chief concern is that the car be driven frequently, and in the "right" kinds of places. He told the WSJ:
"We want people who will drive the car, who will be seen in the car," said Paul Williamson, national manager at Lexus College, Toyota's dealer training school. "We want it to be seen on the right roads, in front of the right restaurants and not just being enjoyed by one individual in their private garage."
But more than anything, the LFA approval process appears to be an effort to enhance the brand's exclusivity -- and establish it as a competitor with the most distinguished brands in luxury high-performance cars like Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari.
As The Big Money's Matthew DeBord, who saw the car at the L.A. Auto Show last December, put it: "Take that, Ferrari! Ka-pow, Lamborghini! Not just anybody can buy an LFA, the greatest Toyota [ever] created by humans on Earth." Check out DeBord's video of the Lexus "supercar":
T.I Preparing to Drop New Album
According to Rap-Up.com, T.I is returning to claim his throne. Less than a month after entering a halfway house, he's back at work recording a new album.
Jim Jonsin, who helped take Tip to No. 1 with “Whatever You Like,” will once again be involved with the project. Jonsin recently spoke with the rapper upon his release to an Atlanta correctional facility after serving seven months behind bars on weapons charges.
According to the producer, the King of the South hasn’t let lockdown dampen his spirits. “It doesn’t seem like he missed a beat,” he says. “He was so upbeat, his spirits were up, and he’s excited to be out and working. He hasn’t changed, he sounded exactly like he did when I talked to him months before he went in.”
T.I. hit the ground running and is already in the studio crafting the follow-up to 2008’s multi-platinum Paper Trail. “He’s back in the studio. I sent him some music via email,” Jonsin reveals. “He can work during the week and not on the weekend, I believe. He’s definitely working on an album for this year right now.”
The project’s direction is still up in the air. “That’s really going to be determined by him. We’re supposed to get together or talk more about it soon,” Jonsin shares. “But his last album was great and his sound already does really well, so I wouldn’t see him changing too much.”

New Supergroup "Mob Squad" Consisting Of Jay-Z, Young Jeezy & Trey Songz Working On Material While On Tour Together
Call the goodfellas the Mob Squad. Jay-Z, Young Jeezy and Trey Songz are getting ready to start the next leg of the BP3 tour and have adopted a nickname.
"The way Jay explained it to me, he wanted to give people the best show possible," Songz told Mixtape Daily Thursday. "They could have easily done it by themselves and it'd be great. But [Jay] wanted to give the best show. All of us bring a separate aspect to the table, making it a great show all the way. I'm there for the ladies, of course. Then I bring an R&B soul vibe and my hip-hop. Jeezy got the streets. And Hov is Hov.
"You gotta be there because it's action-packed from the jump," the singer added.
As big a venture as the trio will have onstage, they just might be doing it big offstage as well. Songz said they may do at least one record together.
"It's definitely all in the talks," Trigger Trey admitted. "It's the Mob Squad. Me, Jay, Jeezy, we plan on working together while we on this tour because the energy we have together when we get around each other is amazing. And like I said, all aspects like that on a record is amazing. Maybe while we out on the road we get it done."
Songz will definitely be working on his new mixtape and putting it out soon.
"I been in the studio. The first thing I did when I got back in the studio was the Rihanna 'Hard' [remix]. I explain how I go hard. As far as music is concerned, the grind is concerned, as far as women are concerned, I go hard. Then I went in and got four or five great records. That's actually four or five original records. I definitely want to release a mixtape to show people that [the skills] ain't went nowhere."

Fear From Woman's Online HIV Hoax Doubles Number Of Patients Being Tested For Virus In Detroit
DETROIT (AP) - The number of walk-ins for HIV testing more than doubled in
Detroit a day after local news reports appeared of a woman who falsely claimed over the Internet to have infected more than 500 people with the virus, city health officials said.
Police said she admitted the story was a hoax. But as of 1 p.m., 16 people had walked into the only city clinic where HIV testing is done and were tested, Michael McElrath, spokesman for the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness, told The Associated Press.
The clinic is open Monday through Friday and typically gets seven walk-ins per day, he said. Because all information is confidential, people seeking testing were not required to say why or whether it was in response to the woman's claims.
The woman identified herself Friday to The Detroit News as 23-year-old Jackie Braxton. The AP tried several times to reach her by phone Friday, but she did not answer and her voicemail box was full.
FOX 2's Taryn Asher spoke with the woman's mother, and Andrea Isom says this hoax turned into a nightmare for one of the men she singled out. Click on the video player to watch their reports.
"I don't have AIDS," Braxton told The Detroit News. "I made the tape because I wanted to raise awareness about AIDS."
The gossip Web site mediatakeout.com was the first to report on the hoax and posted an 11-minute video of the woman that the site also put on YouTube. The Detroit News and other local media outlets then picked up on the story.
On the video, the woman said she contracted HIV in 1998 and has been "pretty upset" about having to "suffer," and has set out to "destroy the world" because a cure for the virus that causes AIDS has not been found.
She wore a bandanna over her face to hide her identity.
But police still tracked her down Friday. She voluntarily submitted to an HIV test.
Braxton said she saw people at the health department Friday waiting to be tested. She also told The Detroit News that the videotape was made to market her own porn site, operated with her husband.
Detroit police acknowledged that the HIV test results came back negative.
It is a felony in Michigan to knowingly transmit HIV. But because it appears no one was infected by the woman, she has not been charged, police spokesman John Roach said.
"We don't see anything at this point under state law that would allow us to press charges, but we are researching," he said.
Mediatakeout.com received the video via e-mail earlier this week, editor Fred Mwangaguhunga told the AP Friday.
"We looked at it, talked about it, and whether or not we thought it was a hoax and whether we should put it out," he said. "She was alleging a possible public health crisis. The hope was we would be able to find out more information on the woman. We uploaded it onto YouTube, and that's when we ran the story."
Mediatakeout.com also contacted Detroit police about the video. Then the flood of calls started coming in. The Web site has since received about 1 million hits, Mwangaguhunga said.
"After the first day we got some tips. People said they know who she is," he said. "One of our readers sent in a tip and said her name was Jackie and that he knows her. But that might have been part of the hoax."
Mwangaguhunga said the Web site was not a party to creating the hoax.
"We're a news agency. We would never do anything like that," he said.
McElrath, of the city's health department, said one positive did come from the hoax: It has prompted some people to get tested for HIV.
"It raises the awareness exponentially when you talk about it and it becomes an issue," he said.
In 2008, a New York man was charged with sending threats in interstate commerce and falsely claiming to have tampered with a consumer product. He allegedly claimed in hoax Internet videos that he had poisoned millions of bottles of baby food, some with cyanide or rat poison, because he wanted to kill black and Hispanic children.
Like Braxton, the man in those videos wore a mask that partially covered his face.

Facebook’s Version of the Retweet Has Arrived!
We’ve long speculated as to when Facebook might get its own version of Twitter’s retweet, and it appears that the time is now. This evening, the site rolled out a “via” feature that lets you repost another user’s shared items, with a “via” link attached for attribution.
It appears the feature is live for everyone. To try it, just go to a friend’s posted item in your news feed, click “share,” and you’ll see a “via [your friend’s name]” (with an option to remove it). Once shared, the item will appear on your profile, with a via link that points to your friend’s profile. Your friends will also see the item in their News Feeds, creating the viral loop that is the Twitter (Twitter) retweet.
Currently, the feature only works for posted links – you can’t “via” someone else’s status update or photo. Nonetheless, given the most visible use of retweets on Twitter is links, with aggregators like Tweetmeme (Tweetmeme) tracking which stories get retweeted the most, it’s a big move for Facebook (Facebook) that makes its service even more Twitter-like.

For $65, tourists get peek at Los Angeles gangland
This goes in the what the f@ck file
LOS ANGELES – Only miles from the scenic vistas and celebrity mansions that draw sightseers from around the globe — but a world away from the glitz and glamour — a bus tour is rolling through the dark side of the city's gang turf.
Passengers paying $65 a head Saturday signed waivers acknowledging they could be crime victims and put their fate in the hands of tattooed ex-gang members who say they have negotiated a cease-fire among rivals in the most violent gangland in America.
If that sounds daunting, consider the challenge facing organizers of LA Gang Tours: trying to build a thriving venture that provides a glimpse into gang life while also trying to convince people that gang-plagued communities are not as hopeless as movies depict.
"There's a fascination with gangs," said founder Alfred Lomas, a former member of the Florencia 13 gang. "We can either address the issue head-on, create awareness and discuss the positive things that go on in these communities, or we can try to sweep it under the carpet."
Several observers have questioned the premise behind the tours, and some city politicians have been more blunt.
"It's a terrible idea," City Councilman Dennis Zine said. "Is it worth that thrill for 65 bucks? You can go to a (gang) movie for a lot less and not put yourself at risk."

DUMB ASS N#GAA Gilbert Arenas Pleads Guilty To Felony Charge Of Carring Unlicensed Pistol
The conviction puts his NBA future in some doubt.
Arenas, 28, was charged yesterday with a single count. As part of the plea deal, his lawyer said, prosecutors agreed to seek a sentence at the low end of the guidelines, which is no more than six months in jail. Sentencing is set for March 26.
The prosecutor offered details of what led to the charge, which grew out of a dispute with a teammate over a card game on the Wizards' flight home from Phoenix on Dec. 19, the Associated Press writes:
The three-time All-Star has previously acknowledged storing four unloaded guns in his locker at the Verizon Center, saying he wanted to keep them away from his young children and didn't know it was a violation of the city's strict gun laws. He says he took them out of the locker Dec. 21 in a "misguided effort to play a joke" on a teammate.
The charge was made hours after the teammate, Javaris Crittenton, had his Northern Virginia apartment searched by police looking for a silver- or chrome-colored semiautomatic handgun with a black handle. The search warrant indicated police were investigating crimes that include brandishing a weapon. No evidence was seized, according to court documents, and Crittenton has not been charged.
Possessing a gun at an NBA arena violates the league's collective bargaining agreement. Commissioner David Stern has suspended Arenas indefinitely without pay pending the outcome of the case.
No official comment so far from the Wizards or the NBA.
